King Khan & the Shrines

The world is big so it is a great thing that we have Internet to make it smaller. The other day I found out that my good friend Robert has decided to open his brain for the rest of us to pick and choose of all the vast and esqusite knowledge about music he stores on his hard disc on Aveny. So it was no big surprise that I was to like the stuff on his blog, and one of the cherries on top of the cream has to be King Khan & the Shrines. This is probably the filthiest rock music disguised as soul (or the other way around...) recorded in 2007. Life's a bitch and then you die!!!

Blonde Redhead

Blonde Redhead

In many cases Internet is about the new, the next big thing, the hype of all hypes with a capital h. So many times you think that you have come across something new when it turns out that the group has been around for ages, which is the case of Blonde Redhead. They are on their seventh album!! The sound on this seventh album - 23 - is for that case not fresh and up to date, they should even be considered the next big thing, could maybe even cause a hype...

Pop Levi

Pop Levi

Pop Levi is made up of Jonathan Levi, once the bass player of fashion electro poppers Ladytron, but do indead not expect something similar. This is kwirky pop music that makes you want to dance, pulling you through an erratic beat switching between pop and glam that will make you run off to put your dancing shoes on. He released his debut album The Return to Form Black Magick Party early this years.

Robert Church and the Holy Community

Sometimes bands that pop up from the My Space garden of new bands are so new that there is very little information about them, like Robert Church and the Holy Community for example. Apart from being made up of two Swedes, Joel and Richard, and that they have very good humor, because I cannot believe that their main influcense are Östen Varnebring, Nanne Grönwall, and early Lill Lindfors. If you are Swedish you will get my point...

Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids are four kids out of California making wonderful growy music where the songs are centred around a stomping beat rooted in the blues of the south that is dificult to resist. They are just out with their debut album Robbers & Cowards, where I especially like 1 minute and 40 seconds into the song Hang me up to Dry when the piano goes nuts...

The Lord Henry

I for one didn't really catch the Art Rock train, sure I bounced around to Franz Ferndinand screaming Take Me Out but I never put on the CD at home. So when I heard about The Lord Henry I can't say that I was thrilled as they were tagged as the New Art Rockers. I don't know if they in fact are, but the music is a lovely explosion of energy and I want to get out of my shair and start a riot, I have even taken on their moto - It is better to break a mans leg than his heart. Amen.

Dektektivbyrån

I have been writing about Detektivbyrån before, but their instrumental magical world is such a beautiful place that if you haven't visited yet please do. They have still only released their debut EP from where this new release is taken.

Du Pacque

The best place on the web to find news about new Swedish music is over at Kade World. The latest group to look out for from the land of sheap furniture, vodka and ABBA musicals is Du Pacque. The easiest way would be to say that they sound like a more psycadelic and dark the Cardigans with the same sexiness and strenght in the voice of lead singer Matilda, just check out Chaperon on their My Space site - the voice is scarily similar to the one of Nina Persson.

Jeff Buckley

It is no news really that we are absolutely crazy about making lists a la Nick Hornsby, and I am the first to admit that I love to read them. However when it comes to naming the best song or album I am reluctant to even open my mouth. Every song has its moment, and if I name one I automatically have to name twenty more. So, the best song ever in my case would be a long list, and I am absolutely positive that in the top positions you would find the Jeff buckley version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Pure and beautiful. I can't think of a better way to celebrate entry number 100 of this blog.

Patrick Park

Patrick Park

When you listen to Patrick Park it is difficult to imagen him with the black belt on, cracking bricks with his head. Because Mr Park can put two professions on his business card; singer songwriter/karate instructor. I am somehow glad that he chose to focus on the music part so we can enjoy his beautiful music on his debut album Loneliness Knows My Name.
